I have two blueberry plants in my backyard and they are in the perfect place because the plants have grown like crazy over the last couple of years, and the blueberries are HUGE! They have begun to ripen over the last week. Here is what I picked a couple days ago.
And these are from earlier today. Look at the size of them! And, let me tell you, there were GOOD! It's a shame that I can't let them all get this big though, otherwise, the birds would eat them all--like they did last summer! Just the other day, I had to chase away a blue jay. Blue jays are pretty birds, but they are such brutes. They get into my sunflower feeder and throw everything out. I can hear them hitting the feeder from inside the house. lol
Speaking of birds, it reminds me...I haven't seen any this year so far, but last summer I saw a bird hanging around the blueberry plants. At first glance, it was just a blur of black and white, so I thought it was a chickadee, but when I got a good look at it, I realized it wasn't. It was a species of bird I had never noticed before. I later identified it as a small sparrow called a dark-eyed junco. I always get so excited when I see a species I have never noticed before and I hope I see it again this summer!
