Guest Blogger @ Laura Sassi Tales

I'm a guest blogger over at my friend Laura Sassi's blog today. Laura is a talented children's writer and has a wonderful and inspiring blog. Definitely worth checking out. Her first picture book will be published by Zonderkidz, a HarperCollins Company.

In case anyone wants to take a peek at my guest post, here's a link:

The Ebb and Flow of Creativity

  1. Wow, I love that post! That is what happens to me, too. I become very energized and really sink my teeth into a story, but after a while the energy fades. I've always tended to think it was a lack of self-discipline, or maybe even a lack of drive. Those thoughts lead to exactly what you mentioned in your post: the worry that maybe I'm just not cut out to be a writer.

And yet, I find that I keep coming back to old projects, or starting new ones, because it's always something I want to be doing. Even when I'm not writing at all, because a project has me frustrated or I've run out of steam, the desire to write is still there.

I love your metaphor about letting the tide carry you out and knowing it's okay because it will always bring you back to shore again. It's a much more relaxed, soothing way to think about those shifting energies. :)

    1. Thanks, Mary! Yeah, I think part of it is also about discipline--well, for me it is, but a huge part of it is also the creative cycle at work. I was honestly surprised that so many writers chimed in saying they go through the same thing. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!
