Today was a good day. My husband got rid of two shelving units in the TV room in the basement, got rid of some wires that weren't needed, got those thingies you use to hide wires, and he even vacuumed down there! I also vacuumed and dusted. It looks SO much tidier!
I'll probably end up taking one of the shelving units into my home office–I could use the extra shelf-space. My office needs some major organizing, too. I will get there in due time. We also went through some old board games and clothes and I filled up an entire garbage bag and half of another one. We'll be dropping that off at one of the nearby donation bins tomorrow.
I've also got a bunch of old DVD's my son hasn't watched in eons, like Sponge Bob and Garfield. I'll be donating that and a couple more books to the library as well. Need to go through my son's bedroom–I'm sure we'll have several more books to donate by the time we go through all his shelves.
And, speaking of organizing stuff, I got Scrivener for my Mac. Oh my gosh, am I ever impressed with it so far. Scrivener is a word processing program for those of you that have never heard of it before. It has so many useful functions that will make organizing writing projects so much more efficient.
Scrivener can also be downloaded for a free 30 day trial, but I just watched one of the online tutorials and knew I had to get it. I also have a good friend that uses it and she loves it.
Right now, I'm going through another tutorial on how to use the basic functions and can't wait to start importing files. Once I have everything imported, I will have all my research and notes in the same spot and all available at the touch of a button. You can even include images and video clips and access them, as well as any other file, quickly and easily.
You've also got index cards associated to each document, and a cork board and outliner mode. I mean, the list just goes on.
Anyone else been busy organizing and decluttering stuff? And, I have noticed that everyone uses the word declutter but it doesn't come up in any dictionary. The correct word is unclutter, but that sounds really weird to me! lol
I am an organizer and a list maker too. I took Friday off because I was supposed to go up north ot visit my friend. I am just getting over being sick and had to cancel;I have just been too tired and can't stop coughing. I am getting better but not in top form. I am not a big fan of winter, that's for sure. I got a lot done here at home too. I love that feeling of accomplishment knowing that there is at least one thing in my life that is not out of control. Have a good week G!!! Rosie
ReplyDeleteHey, Rosa!
DeleteSo glad you dropped by, and I hope you feel better soon. I am a huge list maker, too. Love to cross things off. It gives me a little rush every time...lol. :)
"Unclutter" sounds funny to my ears, too, Gisele. I think it's because it sounds like what you're left with after you do all that de-cluttering. I would define "Unclutter" as the opposite of clutter whereas de-cluttering to me is the process of making things uncluttered. In any event, like you I'm working on a steady dose of de-cluttering - just a little each day - which over time makes a BIG difference.
ReplyDeleteHi, Laura!
DeleteI think you're right on the "declutter" vs. "unclutter." Uncluttered sounds like the result, not the action! And, I agree on how doing a bit of decluttering every day makes a big difference over time! Slow and steady wins the race. :)
