Wow, here we are again, on the cusp of another new year—a new year chock-full of possibilities and new beginnings. I'm not one for New Year's resolutions or setting goals. I find the idea of them rigid and consequently, challenging to achieve.
I prefer to set intentions. The word intention is more flexible to me. I tend to associate it to the journey itself, while the word goal focuses on the result. Now, that is just the way I perceive these words, and it may not reflect the way others view them.
Anyhow, over the past few weeks, I've been thinking about what I want my intentions and focus for 2013 to be. After much mulling over, I've decided that I want it to be about finding discipline, becoming productive, and completing things (yes, I am a huge procrastinator) and I think that the easiest way to achieve this is to live life one moment and one breath at a time, to stay in the ebb and flow of now. I firmly believe that this is where all our power resides.
It is a simple principle to put into practice. For example, when I fold the laundry, I will focus on each item as I am folding it, and not let my mind pull me away until my task is completed. Otherwise, I end up going around in circles and feeling like I'm accomplishing nothing.
So this blog will be about that journey. A place to post about my experiences, discoveries, successes, as well as other random ramblings, and I do warn you, I love to ramble. :)
What about each of you? Are you an in the moment kind of person, or a wanderer? And, if anyone wants to share their intentions/resolutions, I'd love to hear about them!
Thanks for dropping by, and I hope to see you again! (Yes, I am an exclamation point junkie and proud of it! lol)
Happy New Year and yes I am an in the now kind of person. Enjoy your journey and the ebb and flow of it all!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping in, D, and Happy New Year to you and yours!!! Looking forward to the year ahead, I must say. :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to you blog! I like the idea of intentions. I, too, am trying to live more fully in the present - enjoying each task/moment before me - and just being present more fully, whatever the moment.
ReplyDeleteHi, Laura! Thank you so much for dropping by. Glad to hear that you are also working on focusing on things moment by moment. It's really a struggle for me--not that I don't enjoy life, I'm a very positive, happy person, but my mind is always running away from me...lol.
DeleteAnyhow, I look forward to seeing what wonderful things will unfold for us through the coming year! :)
PS: I haven't forgotten about that blog post--will be sending it through before the weekend.
For certain I am a wanderer. (Mistyped that as wonderer, although that's true, too.) I also agree 100% with your views that the journey should be the focus, rather than the destination, since the destination will reflect the journey and not the other way around.
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me to start a blog, too! I haven't kept one in a long time, and I miss it. (I also just recently read over my old LJ, an experience that made me very happy that I wrote in it for as long as I did and that I have it to look back on now.) Visit me? http://writtenember.blogspot.com/
Happy New Year!!
Hey there, Mary! (((hugs))) So happy to see you over here and thrilled to know that you are jumping in with a new blog, too! I will of course visit you! Really looking forward to keeping in touch and seeing what you're up to. I've missed you!
DeleteAnd yes, I am still an exclamation point junkie! lol
Exclamation points are enthusiasm in written form! How can that not be a good thing? Life should be full of enthusiasm!
DeleteI've missed you, too! :)
You've got that right!!!! *wink*
DeleteI would say I am an in the moment wanderer and also an exclamation point junkie...lol
ReplyDeleteI am with you Gisele as I am not one for New Year's resolutions either...I also prefer the word intention because it isn't so limiting. I try to focus on the task at hand and usually I do pretty good but sometimes I get off track...hence the wandering...I try to keep going though and I find I feel better as each task that I wanted to accomplish has been done.
I agree with you 110%, Lu! Like you, I do pretty good, but get off track--I guess I ebb and flow in that area as well...lol. I find when I do my yoga on a regular basis though, it really calms me and helps keep me grounded. I find it much easier to stay on track. And, there is nothing more satisfying than ticking off things from my to-do list! :)
